Dr. William Stixrud is one of the leading experts on stress and motivation in children. Simply put? There is NO ONE doing the work that Dr. Stixrud is.  In this online video, Leslie INTERVIEWS Dr. Stixrud on this CRITICAL TOPIC using questions submitted directly from the OOOC community of parents.

As parents or caregivers, we’re all guilty of it.  Instead of trusting our kids to make choices of their own, we insist on micromanaging EVERYTHING they do from homework to friendships to activities and everything in between. Instead, Dr. William Stixrud, leading expert on stress and motivation in children and co-author of The Self-Driven Child, has a very simple solution for us.

JUST STOP.

Beginning with the philosophy that without a healthy sense of control or the ability to make meaningful choices, our kids are at a high risk of becoming anxious, angry, self-destructive, or even self-medicating. Even with all our parent involvement, our children often fail to thrive. In other words, in trying too hard to control our children, we have unwittingly become part of the problem we’re trying to solve.

In this one-hour, online video, Dr. Stixrud dives deep into why it makes good sense to give our kids more choice and control over their lives.  He shares his cutting-edge, research-backed approach that shows when parents take a step back, children feel less overwhelmed and stressed and are able to take charge of their own lives and find their self-drive.

Topics in this 1-hour video include:

  • Actionable steps to take to move away from a model that depends on parental pressure to one that nurtures a child’s own drive.

  • Appropriate parent-led language to communicate effectively to your child so you can help them find their own internal motivation.

  • Help navigating the educational system so you’re better prepared to advocate for your child.

  • Strategies to become a NONANXIOUS presence in your child’s life so they can find a sense of control while you find yours.

And So Much More!
